TOD & Road Safety / Session 3 / Planning and Designing Road Safety Measures in TOD

October 15, 2020
06:30 pm - 08:00 pm (Asia/Kolkata, UTC+5:30)

This session is the third in a four-part workshop series highlighting the importance of road safety, in Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) projects, through the Five-Step process and Safe System approach. It looks at the Plan & Design stage of the TOD framework.

This session looks at providing safe and efficient linkages, between the developments within the TOD, and the transit station. Designing of such safe infrastructure needs to attain the three sustainable safety principles, of functionality, homogeneity and predictability, of the roads within the context of a TOD project. The session further discusses considerations for designing safe infrastructure for walking, cycling, para transit, shared streets and station areas within the requirements of the local TOD context.

A case study highlighting strategies adopted for the ‘Tianjin Green Transport Development Strategy’ in Tianjin, China through the iRAP star rating system and planning and design strategies are also highlighted in this session.
